Immediately after Valentino Rossi has been confirmed to get handed 3 point penalty following his presumably intended action against Marc Marquez, news spread out to tell that Rossi’s table points were reduced 3 point from the existing one.
Another news was written that due this punishment, Rossi is to immediately start from last grid in the next race to be held in Valencia. Both news, unfortunately, prove to be wrong.
Since MotoGP has release the penalty point regulations, many parties have proved to be wrong in understanding the regulation. Although it implies sanction imposed, it has nothing to do with table’s point of each riders. Penalty point will give its impact into effect only to rider performance on the circuit. The effect, however, will apply when it is accumulated to 4 penalty points.
Having 4 penalty points means to the concerned rider to start from the last grid in the next race. In Rossi’s case, it’s not #SepangClash that causes him to start from last grid in Valencia next two weeks. But because it’s accumulated with previous 1 penalty point given to the Yamaha Movistar in Misano after clashing with his teammate.
